My May Favourites: Creative Tools and Cozy Essentials

As the days get warmer and the creative energy flows, I’ve been gathering a few favourites that have been helping me relax, paint, and feel good this month. Whether you're an artist looking for tools to spark creativity or someone just looking for cozy essentials, these are the items I’ve been loving.

1. The Artist's Way – A Path to Creativity and Playfulness

This book has been an absolute game-changer for my creative process. The Artist’s Way by Julia Cameron is all about rediscovering your creative self and learning to paint, write, and create without the pressure of perfection. The exercises and morning pages are an incredible way to tap into that playful, child-like creativity that we often lose touch with as adults. I find it’s the perfect blend of encouragement and guidance to get back to why I started painting in the first place – for the joy of it! If you’re looking to reconnect with your creativity, this one’s a must-read.

2. A Good Journal for Morning Pages and Fountain Pen For Writing

Writing has always been a big part of my creative routine, and for the past month, I’ve been using a beautiful journal specifically for my morning pages. There’s something so enjoyable about putting pen to paper, especially when it’s a high-quality journal paired with a smooth-flowing fountain pen. It makes writing feel like a treat, not a task. Plus, journaling first thing in the morning helps clear my mind and set the tone for the day. If you haven’t tried the morning pages technique from The Artist’s Way, this is the perfect journal for it!

3. Quinacridone Magenta Acrylic Paint – Perfect for Underpainting

I’ve been experimenting with acrylic paints recently, and Quinacridone Magenta has become my favourite colour for underpainting. It’s such a vibrant, rich hue that creates beautiful depth under my pastel oil paintings. The transparency of the paint makes it a great choice for layering, and I love how it interacts with my lighter colors. If you're looking for a unique way to add life to your underpainting process, this is the colour to try!

4. Cotton Comfy Clothing

While this one’s not linked to my shop, I can’t help but mention how much I’ve been loving cotton clothing this month. Specifically, gauze pants and lightweight cotton T-shirts. They're perfect for keeping cool during warm days in the studio, and I love that they’re soft on my skin. Plus, they’re eco-friendly, which makes them an even better choice. Comfort meets sustainability – what’s not to love?

5. Decaf Coffee – No More Headaches

As someone who loves coffee, I’ve been switching to decaf in the afternoons, and it’s made a world of difference. No more headaches or feeling jittery! Decaf has that cozy, comforting vibe I love, without the caffeine overload. It’s the perfect mid-afternoon pick-me-up, especially when I’m getting into the creative zone. If you’re looking for a smooth, balanced decaf option, I definitely recommend giving it a try.

This one is my favourite!
